The Beauty of Life Changing Moments

There are special times when we experience life changing moments. Moments that shift our entire being (mindset, spirit and body). It’s beautiful when we experience those moments with Christ. When He gently yet abundantly refreshes us with His word and gives us assurance that He loves us. Throughout our daily schedules and demands, ceasing the moment and yielding to Christ through song, prayer, study, and meditation is truly priceless.

I recently traveled to speak at a Women’s Conference. In my room was a beautiful view of the beach. The weather was perfect, and the timing was divine. I grabbed a light jacket, my bible, notepad and pen, and headed for the balcony. Just taking time to look at God’s creation was joyous, but when I began to settle my spirit and relax in His arms, He spoke three things to me that has eternally changed my life.

The first thing He told me was “stop chasing success.” He reminded me in His word, “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.” Deuteronomy 28:2. I had this thing backwards. I was chasing and toiling on “the next big thing.” Chasing after people or events that I felt was the answer to my “big break.” However, the Lord expressed to me that my responsibility is to obey Him.

It’s in our obedience to what God would have us to do that would cause the blessings of the Lord not only to come upon us, but also overtake us. I was encouraged that God’s blessings do not just come in any form or manner; no, they are coming in such a way that will outdistance us. Wow, how powerful is that? God is not only in the blessing business but blessing overhaul! What makes His blessings so much sweeter is that they enrich us, free from regret, shame or sorrow.

The second thing the Lord spoke to me was, “not to put more trust in man than in Him.” I was convicted on trusting God in my prayers but trusting man to answer my prayers. However, the bible teaches us in Proverbs 3:5-7 “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not to thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” When our path is directed by God, He will see to it that destiny helpers align with His purpose for our life. We must put our trust in God! Putting our trust in man will redirect our steps outside of God’s will. We must trust God not only to protect and care for us, but also to direct our path. We don’t just want anyone interlinking in our path, who is not supposed to be there. We must remember that our path is connected through divine alignment in Christ.

The last thing the Lord spoke to me was “change your perspective regarding delay.” I personally saw delay as rejection. However, that is not how we as Christians should perceive it. We must remember that God knows the end from the beginning. We also must remember that He is not slack concerning His promises towards us. There was a time, in the book of Daniel, when he waited twenty-one days before the angel of the Lord appeared. Daniel did not give up. He kept praying. When the angel of the Lord came to Daniel, he told him that there was much warfare going on, which hindered him from getting to Daniel sooner. However, it was because of Daniels fervent and persistent prayers that led to breakthrough. As a Christian we need to take hope that when we are experiencing delay, there could be something happening in the spiritual realm, that we are unaware of. Nevertheless, we must pray without ceasing. I am a true believer that you shall reap if you faint not.

As we welcome Spring and as the weather begins to shift, I pray that God will also show himself mighty in our lives. It is my sincere hope that He will speak to us and share life changing wisdom that will align our path with His perfect will. I wanted to share this personal testimony with you to encourage you that God is still in the speaking business. He has much to say in this season of our lives. Therefore, take time to relax, settle your spirit and open your heart to receive ALL that He desires to share with you. It will be the best decision you ever made.

Critical Condition

This is a critical season in your life.  You may ask why I describe it as critical. Have you ever experienced or witnessed someone who was hospitalized, and you were told that they were in critical condition? Initially, it can make your heart skip a beat because you know that’s a time where not only are they under intense doctors care, but as much as you would like to fix it you know that only God can turn the situation around.

Critical condition is not necessarily a bad thing.  If you think about it, not only are you totally dependent upon the Lord, but you also give way for His power to be made perfect in your weakness. It is a time of complete stillness and trust. It is also a time when you are truly grateful for the many things that we can easily take for granted. Are you in critical condition?  Does it look like your story will not change? Are you in a place where the only visitor allowed in your room is the Holy Spirit?

I bring good news.  The Lord has not forgotten His promises and covenant that He has for you. What has boggled the minds of doctors, family and friends has not confused God.  He knows exactly the remedy for your condition.  Maybe the Lord needed you to rest for a moment.  Maybe He has been trying to speak with you to make things clear concerning your calling and destiny. Maybe the Lord does not want you trusting in titles or possessions. I think it is a great thing that He is monitoring your heart.  Can you trust that what looks critical in the eyes of man is elevation in the eyes of God?

In this season of your life you may feel weak, but you are not.  In this season of your life you may feel insignificant, but angels are all around you. In this season of your life you may feel alone, but the Lord’s presence continues to be your help, strength and comfort. This is not the time to be dismayed.  Even if the pain is so great that you cannot muster the strength to pray, remember the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (Romans 8:26-27).

Even in critical condition you are completely covered!  The blood of Jesus covers you.  The grace of God covers you.  The word covers you. I do believe that you latter days shall be better than your former days, and just when others are ready to pull the plug, uncommon miracles will be your testimony. If you feel in any way that you are in critical condition, be encouraged.  This is a turning point in your life.  You will recover all! Man may give up on you, but God has you exactly where He needs you to be.  Remember, this is your time to rest, recover and reclaim!

How To Deal With Anger and Move Forward Peacefully

If I may, I would like to ask when is the last time you were angry about something or with someone? Some of you may not have to think very long.  One of the things God has personally been healing me from is anger.  A lot of times we misdiagnose anger by only classifying it as a form of verbal or physical expression. Meaning, someone yelling or throwing objects.  However, I would like to submit to you that you can have anger and never raise your voice.  You can have anger and never throw an object.  Simply put, there are silent walkers struggling with anger at this very moment.  Some people have learned to suppress it and keep it dormant, but best believe if you hit that button, that anger inside can be explosive. I was the type of person, looking at me from the outside, you would never see it, but internally I was carrying a lot of anger. I carried anger going through my divorce.  I carried anger from my brother’s untimely death.  I also carried anger from failed friendships.

Anger is so important to discuss and the time is now.  As Christians we cannot continue in the cycle of anger.  Not only does it rob you of purpose, but also progress.  How can you truly move forward when you are housing and harboring hostility and vexation?  It’s not possible.  Anger to me is like having a slow leak in a tire.  You may not see it initially, but you are losing air and if not fixed, you will most certainly have a flat.  When we harbor anger we are slowly turning away from righteousness and if not careful will give a foot hole to the enemy, causing us to deflate in forgives and love.

We are entering the fourth and final quarter of 2020.  Many of us have experienced our share of disappointment, hardship and trials.  One thing we cannot afford to do is allow anger to set us back.  So you might be asking, how do I move forward peacefully? I want to share three things with you.

  1. Anger has a shelf life.

The bible gives us clear instruction in Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin; do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” Beloved, this is a principle that will deliver us from days, months and even years from harboring anger. This scripture doesn’t say not to be angry, but it does tell us that if not careful anger can lead to sin.  Therefore, don’t allow anger to continue when the sun goes down.  How many of you have went to bed angry?  I know I have.  But what if we truly applied this principle? How much healthier would we be?

  • Anger freely invites the devil into your life

Ephesians 4:27 says, “And do not give the devil a foothold.”  When you are harboring anger that’s like opening your doors and telling the enemy to come on in.  Sometimes we are quick to say what the enemy is doing this and that, but did you give him an invite? Did you open the door because of anger? As we wrap up this year, please check you mail and make sure the enemy is not on your list. The devil only wants to come in and bring discord, division and distraction? God has brought you too far!  Do not give the enemy a foothold!  He only wants to steal your peace, the fruits of the spirit, your joy, and your stability.  Remember, anger causes instability.

  • Don’t rehearse your hurts

I was reading a previous devotion from Dr. Charles Stanley and he was talking about anger.  One thing he said at the end of the devotion was, don’t rehearse your hurts.  WOW!  That was life changing for me.  When you rehearse your hurts, it will keep you stuck in a limited capacity.  How can you give to others and you keep rehearsing your hurts?  How can you handle bigger and better things, and you keep rehearsing your hurts? However allow those hurts to be testimonials and help someone else. You want the curtain to come up, but my question to you is, what are people going to see?  Remember, what is internal will be reflected. You only can give from what is from within.

If you continue to persist in anger, it will push you out of purpose. I don’t want you to be pushed out of purpose, but pushed forward to purpose.  There are people who have allowed anger to overtake them because they never dealt with it.  However, this is a great time to have peace.  There can be kayos all around you, but remember peace is priceless. You cannot buy you way out of anger.  Temporal things will not allow anger to disappear. I know this might be hard to grasp, but in order to deal with anger you must have healthy confrontation. Therefore, let’s continue to extend grace to ourselves and others and let’s deal with anger in order to move forward peacefully.

Only One Word

What is the one thing that people can say about you?  People who do not know each other, but have a common thread when your name arises?  You may not believe this, but there is always someone paying attention to you.  As we know, some people are flat out nosy.  However, there are others who genuinely admire you.  Regardless of the category that person may or may not fit in, you are being observed.  You are being observed on how you handle yourself.  You are being observed in how you treat others. You are being observed even when you don’t say a word.  Remember growing up, our parents use to tell us that actions speak louder than words.

We are facing so many challenges right now.  Some of you may say you can’t recall when the last time you had balance in your life.  Or the last time you went on a real vacation. For some of us the house is overcrowded and just retreating to the laundry room has been a tranquil experience. After all the ups and downs. After all the highs and lows, what’s the one thing that remains constant about you?

For me, I am resilient.  It is absolutely in my blood!  After going through two failed marriages, health issues, financial hardships, tragedy, and not seeing several of my personal goals heighten, I know what disappointment looks like.  However, I never allowed disappointment to hibernate me.  I never allowed it to cause me to be dormant or to run and hide. Truth be told, I allowed disappointment to awaken me.  Even when I went through the tragic loss of my brother, grief was attempting to cause me to give up, but resilience always prevailed.  The things I ask myself is what lessons have I learned in this situation. How can this situation be a catalyst for me rather than a crutch? Everything in my body, mind and spirit awakens and says given up in not an option!  One of the things I promised my brother Evan, while he was living, was that I would go back and get my graduate degree.  When he passed away, my emotions said, what’s the use, but the resilience in my mind said, you can do this. And today, I am three classes away from receiving my Masters in Law degree from Regent University.

Let’s even think for a moment about the three Hebrew boys.  Many of us know the story in Daniel Chapter 3.  King Nebuchadnezzar put out an edict that when the sound of music is played all must bow and worship the golden image he had made. When the King confronted the three Hebrew boys they said, “We do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.” (Daniel 3:16b) The Hebrew boys were relentless that the only God that would serve was the true and living God.  And at the end of the story the King also acknowledges that! When you have a chance read Daniel 3.  There are so many wisdom nuggets to be discovered.

When it’s all said and done, there will be times when people might say things about you that feels good and they may say things that may not feel so good, but who are you?  What do you stand for? What does your character say about you no matter what season you are in?  How are you going to respond to the truth and the lies? But most importantly, what do you know about yourself when it comes to your relationship with Christ Jesus? Are you a man or woman full of faith? Do you wait patiently on the Lord? Do you give thanks is all things concerning you? Do you have a forgiving and compassionate heart? Do you trust the Lord with all of your heart? Remember, the most confident thing is trust.  So again I ask you, if someone could choose one word to describe you, what would it be? For me, my word is resilient.  What is your word?

What Does Love Have To Do With Intuition?

I know this is the month of love.  And while many of us are ordering flowers and enjoying the delicacy of chocolate, I want you to take a moment and love on yourself.  Love the created masterpiece you are.  Love the heart of forgiveness and compassion you have, and please love the purity of your intuition.  Will you agree with me that we were all born with intuition?  How beautiful that God did not leave anything undone concerning us.  You and I have the ability to comprehend and understand things that are intimate and forth coming.  Let’s be honest, how many times have you said, “I wish I would have listened to my intuition?” I know I have said it a thousand times.  So the fact remains that even though we were all born with intuition, all of us may not adhere to it.

You do understand that you can have knowledge of something and still be disobedient?  This is why I want you to take some time and love on your intuition.  Your intuition is not meant to cause you doubt or dismay, but to give you clarity and direction. Just imagine with me for a moment two glasses of water.  One glass of water is so pure and clear and the other glass is cloudy and murky.  The essence of your intuition is purity.  What causes our glass to become murky is when we doubt, not respond to our intuition, or put more trust in the opinions of others above what our own intuition is telling us to do!

If you were at a restaurant and the waitress or waiter brought you a glass of water that was not clean, would you drink it? The answer is no.  You want your water to be clean and pure.  The same holds true to your intuition.  It desires to protect and purify you from the things that could taint or tarnish you.  In this month of love, please take some time and LOVE on how powerful your intuition is.  I want that love to be so strong that you have a made up mind that you will no longer ignore its purity. You will no longer second guess its motives and or intentions. When your intuition says yes, wait, no, go or run, I hope you will appreciate the purity from hence that advice comes from.  I am bold enough to say where love is so is trust.  Some of you have been lacking in love towards your intuition, due to lack of trust.  However, I promise you your intuition will never lead you wrong. You may not fully know in the beginning why, but trust me there is a reason, a purpose and a plan. So if I can share three quick tips with you regarding your intuition it would be this:

  1. Don’t ignore that still quiet voice.
  2. Journal the moments when your intuition is speaking with you.
  3. Be careful on how much you share and with whom you share it with.
